Exciting original lady's Traveling Coat or Duster. Made of drab brown linen, this garment would have been worn when traveling to avoid soiling one's nice dress. The duster is beautifully tailored to skim the figure, leaving room beneath for fashioable furbelows. It has a Peter Pan collar (NOT a period term), is double-breasted with contrasting binding, decorative buttons and the "bustle pockets" associated with the later part of the 1870s.
At the back, crossed tabs create visual interest. The duster is unlined or boned. Condition: There are some holes, much discoloration, a missing button (easily replaced with the top button hidden under the collar) and a buttonhole that is almost torn open.
It smells a little musty. The bust measures 36 inches, The waist measures 32.Please note: Measurements are approximate and should be taken as maximum.
