At the top of the mast, an upside-down American flag is visible. This is an old type of S. Signal used by sailors in the 19th and early 20th century.
The sailors in the small lifeboat have anguished and desperate facial expressions, as they paddle the small vessel with all of their might. Signed illegibly in the lower left corner: R. I could not decipher the name of this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work?
This piece likely dates to the 1940's - 1950's. Approximately 18 1/4 x 22 1/4 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 16 x 20 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light edge wear to the gilded frame please see photos.
